There are some amazing moms in our Macaroni Kid community! In our "Meet a Local Mom" feature, we get to know some locals and what they're up to. This is also an opportunity to find out which local causes and businesses our local community can support! This feature is an attempt to empower all of us through connection.
Meet Rachel! This local Dover mom is on a mission to support moms and kids through the MOMS Club of Dover. Thanks for all you are doing to enrich our community, Rachel!
How many children do you have? What are their ages?
I have 1 daughter named Eleanor. She is 2 1/12.
Where are you from?
I am originally from New Hampshire. I moved to Delaware two years ago.
Which Delaware town do you live in?
I live in Dover, just on the boarder of Camden.
What's your favorite spot in Delaware to take the kids?
My husband and I love Bombay Hook. My daughter loves to go to Fifers and enjoy all their wonderful family events.
Coffee, tea, or wine?
Double coffee, double wine.
Beach or mountains? Why?
I really miss the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The beaches of Delaware are lovely though. The beach in Lewes is especially awesome for toddlers!
Celebrity crush?
Matt Damon... especially because he advocates for education and teachers.
Favorite "me time" activity? What do you do to feel like you are taking care of YOU?
This is something I am still working on.
Good books lately? Naturally, both kids' books and/or adults' books are acceptable.
I love to read! I have recently read several great books: Phenomena; An Early Start for Your Child with Autism (great parenting advice for all not just parents of autistic children); A More Beautiful Question; and No Drama Discipline.
Greatest joy that you have found in motherhood?
Giggling with my daughter.
Greatest challenge as a mom?
Sleep. My daughter has yet to sleep through the night. Hence why I checked double coffee above!
Why do you love Macaroni Kid?
When I first moved to Delaware I was looking for things to do with my daughter and things to do around Delaware as a new mom, Macaroni Kid was the first resource I found that had great information!
Anything else that you would like to share?
When I first moved to Delaware I joined two local moms groups. These groups were so very helpful as I navigated the 4th trimester and being a new mom. I want to continue to build a local village for moms, so working with some other awesome local moms, we founded a MOMS Club of Dover. We have two open houses in early August and will begin with playdates, field trips and community service in late August and continuing throughout the year.
