Curiosity Day! 🐵

Happy Birthday Curious George! 🎉

By Kristen VanHekle September 25, 2019

September 16th is H.A. Ray’s Birthday, the author and creator of Curious George.  On or around this day every year we celebrate Curiosity Day which is also Curious George’s Honorary Birthday.  It’s a day to celebrate a love of learning and reading.  For this celebration, I decided to do a story time giveaway.  All books and materials were provided by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which has been publishing Curious George books for over 60 years.  Thank you Houghton Mifflin Harcourt!  There are now over 100 Curious George titles to choose from.  See the complete list here.

The story time giveaway was open to any and all local teachers.  Elementary school teachers, preschool teachers, daycare teachers, early childhood teachers, any teacher could win!  The lucky winner ended up being a first grade teacher and I couldn’t wait to meet all 24 of her students.  When I got there, the kids were expecting me but not really sure what Curiosity Day was.  I told them we were going to celebrate all things that make us curious and Curious George’s Birthday.  We read stories, sang songs, worked on Curious George activity sheets, and enjoyed some delicious bananas.  George’s favorite snack. 🍌. We made it a birthday party for George and the kids loved it!

I think the reason children love George so much and why he has been so popular for so many years is because of how much they can relate to him.  He gets himself into so many situations that get him in trouble all for being curious.  George is still learning and figuring things out just like this group of 6 and 7 year olds.  And just like me. 🤣🐵

Thanks for having me!  I really enjoyed spending time in the classroom and with the kids.  Curious George is such a relatable little monkey and we all just love him! ❤️
